Let’s Brew Up Some Midlife Magic!
I’m proud to say that my grown sisters and I have carried on the same tradition with raising our own families – but, same as my mother, I noticed a stark change in my general sunny disposition, overall outlook on life, and body when I turned 40. It was as if a gray cloud was moving very slowly and sneakily over my head, following me wherever I went, and not letting me lose weight or gain muscle. This cloud also turned my days into very moody ragefests, where I didn’t feel like myself emotionally.
I’ve always been athletic, but naturally had to adjust my workouts into my thirties – especially realizing my knees weren’t super happy with me pounding the pavement since I trained for and ran many marathons, half marathons, and 10ks in my twenties. But really, it felt as if none of my workouts had the same results they had in the past once I turned 40. In fact, it even started to feel like all cardio did was make me hungrier and gain weight!
I am so lucky to have found an amazing family doctor who took a more holistic approach to medicine. I came in to address migraines that seemed to crop up during my cycle, and was confused at first when he started talking to me about perimenopause. He slow-walked me into the concept without making me feel too insecure about my age – ha! It took way more than one office visit to convince me to begin not only HRT therapy, but different peptide therapies he strongly suspected would help me. But when I did, my whole life changed.
And that was really just the beginning, over the past several years, I’ve adjusted many of the therapies based upon lab results, still running hormone panels often to make sure balance is being achieved for me as an individual. This is definitely necessary! I am so thrilled to have started this journey and taken those first steps towards a better life into perimenopause. Because of it, I’m thoroughly convinced I get to enjoy my life in a thriving body thanks to a combination of HRT and peptide therapy.
Besides those different therapies, I’ve been on a quest to find workouts that will now suit the needs of my happy 40 year old body. This means in addition to the hot yoga I’ve been doing to repair my joints and keep arthritis nonexistent way into my senior and elderly years, I’m adding in weight training with home workouts this year! I fully intend to be able to be very mobile and active way past the age of 65, and I know the best way to achieve this is by setting good habits now.
‘m also on a quest to add much more protein to my diet, along with a few magic foods that serve women well into their midlife years, like avocado and healthy coconut and olive oils, lentils, and whole fruits and vegetables in lieu of yummy (but salty) potato chips and refined sugars in candy and other desserts.
Now understand – I will never be the person who deprives herself of delicious food. I will always take a slice of amazing quality chocolate cake, but I’ll also be sure to have plenty of wonderfully nourishing (and equally delicious) foods that same day. And may be too full on avocado and lentils to eat the whole slice of cake!
I also am always game to try new supplements like Ashwaganda and collagen! I have nothing but love for all of these amazing offerings available on the market in 2024 to help make perimenopause in midlife, over 40 women flow so much smoother. I’m so thankful to be on this journey in a happy body, with my sunny disposition back intact!
And I’m so honored and excited you’re here with me, committing to yourself to get nothing but better and healthier as we age! Not only is this quest achievable in 2024, but many many women around you are doing it every day.
I’m excited to see where this journey takes us all! I’m so happy you’re along for the ride…
Sincerely,
JayJo
